19 public varsities sign deal for developing campus network

Nineteen public universities yesterday signed an agreement with the University Grants Commission (UGC) for developing campus network, reports UNB.
UGC Secretary Dr Md Khaled and Vice-Chancellors of the universities signed the agreement on behalf of their respective institutions at the UGC auditorium.
The Bangladesh Research and Education Network (BdREN), a programme under the Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project (HEQEP) of the UGC, initially allocated Tk 52 crore for 19 public universities for campus networking. But the allocation was increased to Tk 67 finally in the revised contract for the developing campus network for the universities.
Addressing the signing event, UGC Member Prof Mohammad Yousuf Ali Mollah urged the university authorities to properly maintain the equipment and ensure maximum utilization of the facilities provided by BdREN for campus networking.
UGC Member Prof D. Md Akhtar Hossain and HEQEP Project Director Dr Gauranga Chandra Mohanta also spoke on the occasion.
The universities which signed the agreement are Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), National University (NU), Bangladesh Open University (BOU), Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University, Patuakhali Science and Technology University, Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology, Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology and Khulna University of Engineering and Technology.
Besides, Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology, Jagannath University, Comilla University, Chittagong Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Jessore University of Science and Technology, Bangladesh University of Professionals, Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur, Pabna Science and Technology University, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University, Barisal University and Bangladesh Textile University.
