The Dhaka South City Corporation has announced a budget of Tk 3183.65 crore for the fiscal year 2016-17, which is three times bigger than that of the previous fiscal, reports UNB.
Mayor Syed Khokon announced the budget at a meeting at the Nagar Bhaban auditorium yesterday.
The city corporation targeted a Tk 2085.36 crore budget for the fiscal year for 2015-16. But, it failed to reach the target and the revised budget for the fiscal year was Tk 1052.49 crore.
DSCC implemented only 51 per cent of the previous fiscal year’s budget.
According to the proposed budget, the DSCC fixed a target of Tk 1391.27 crore revenue and other income.
Replying to a question the mayor said, “It’s quite possible to implement the budget as we have no loan pending in this fiscal year. It’s not a big challenge to implement it. We’ve planned to build new 27 multipurpose markets which will be a new source of money.” The revenue income in the new budget, include taxes (holding, conservancy, lighting) Tk 500 crore, market salami (possession fee) Tk 650 crore, market rent Tk 30 crore, trade license fees Tk 65.00 crore, rickshaw lenience fess Tk 3.6 crore, Bus-terminal Tk 5.60 cattle market Tk 5.60 crore and advertisement fees Tk 5.11 crore.
The expenditure in the budget include salaries and allowances Tk 240.00 crore, road and traffic infrastructure maintenance and development Tk 943.66 crore, physical infrastructure building and development Tk 29.75 crore, development of graveyards and cremation fields Tk 14.25 crore , environmental development Tk 78.45 crore and development of civic recreational facilities Tk 151.50 crore.
About the eviction of the illegal establishments, Khokon said, “We won’t conduct any drive abruptly. It’ll be done gradually. If we want to evict all illegal establishments overnight it’ll affect the public life.”
