Ismat Jahan, who is currently serving as the ambassador to the European Union (EU) and Belgium, has been made the envoy of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in the Permanent Observer Mission to the EU.
OIC Secretary General Iyad Ameen Madani has already approved the appointment, said sources concerned. The government has also allowed Jahan to take up the new employment on lien for three years, they said.
The OIC, a body of 57 Muslim-majority countries, opened the mission to the EU in June, 2013, they added.
In April, Jahan was appointed as the country’s next high commissioner to the United Kingdom.
With the new development, the sources said, the order has been revoked and the current Ambassador to Indonesia Md Nazmul Quaunine is all set to become the next high commissioner in London.
In her long diplomatic career, Jahan served as the Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to the UN in New York and Ambassador to the Netherlands. She also served in the high commission in New Delhi, Permanent Mission in Geneva and New York.
