Renewing her firm resolve to free Bangladesh from terrorism and militancy, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday said her government has been able to create mass awareness against the twin devils, BSS reports.
"Through this we have set an example in the world and we have firm belief that we would be able to free Bangladesh from militancy and terrorism together Insha Allah," she said.
The premier also warned that legal action would be taken against those patronizing terrorism and militancy. “We must take legal action against those who are nurturing the twin demons,” she said.
The Prime Minister said this while replying to a supplementary raised by treasury bench member Dr Dipu Moni during her question answer hour in the House.
The Leader of the House said it is a matter of hope that all professional bodies have been playing an anti-militancy role from their respective positions.
The Prime Minister said the people of the country are pious not fanatics. “The peaceful coexistence the people of different faiths is a rare example, and terrorism and militancy would never be established in the country,” she said.
Referring to her videoconferencing with cross section of people in 64 districts under 8 divisions, the premier said the government has got an unprecedented response to its initiatives to create awareness against militancy and terrorism.
She said the entire countrymen are now united against terrorism and militancy. “A unity has been created among all countrymen, and parents, guardians and teachers are now very conscious so that their children and students don’t step into a wrong path,” she said.
Pointing to the remarks of the BNP leaders after the recent terrorist attacks in Gulshan, Sholakia and Kalyanpur, the premier said it seems from their comments that they have put forward a condition that the government will have to do it otherwise terrorism and militancy won’t be stopped in the country. he said the general people think from the BNP leaders’ condition that they are the patrons and they have patronization and encouragement for terrorism and militancy in any way.
“It seems from their words that they would stop terrorism and militancy if their condition is met, which is very regretful,” she said, urging the people to remain alert against it.
Mentioning the Kalyanpur operation, the premier said the police and other law enforcement agencies have been able to contain the militants very courageously.
