Bangladesh are unlikely to get the service of Mustafizur Rahman in the next two series against England and New Zealand as the fast bowler may require operation to get his shoulder injury fully healed.
His participation in those two series came under scanner after Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) made their intention clear that they are reluctant to take a minimum risk with the pace sensation.
The BCB spokesman Jalal Younus revealed that they would go for operation if it’s the solution to get him fully fit. And he indicated that they won’t mind Mustafizur to miss those two series for the sake of his permanent cure.
But before that all procedure, the BCB will wait for another medial assessment of Mustafizur. The board will decide on what he should do after that assessment.
Jalal Yunus, also the chairman of BCB media and communication said, a fresh MRI can give an indication on the treatment process. “He will need another MRI to understand the exact nature of his injury.” “There’s some extra fluid on his shoulder. The MRI will tell us what he should be doing thereafter - an injection or a surgery. We will hear the advice of the specialists in the UK and our doctors and physio.” Mustafizur has a SLAP tear (an injury to the labrum, which is the cartilage around the socket of the shoulder joint) in his left shoulder. He had an MRI taken a couple of days ago, after he missed Sussex’s latest one-day game.
Bangladesh team manager and BCB director Khaled Mahmud Sujon said it’s the same old injury which ruled him out during the home series against Zimbabwe in the early of this year. Later as a result of this injury he couldn’t play some matches of the Asia Cup T20 and World T20. Team physio Bayezidul Islam said, an operation is needed if he wants to get healed fully from this problem.
But if he undergoes operation, he will have to be sidelined for the next six months which meant he could not play the home series against England and away series against New Zealand. While the series against England will start from October, Bangladesh will play in New Zealand in December-January.
Jalal Yunus said they will take the call according to the situation. “He is our asset. We don’t want to take minimum risk with him.”
“If operation is required to get him fully fit, we’ll go for that option. We don’t want the problem to resurface and hamper him.”
Tamim Iqbal and Nasir Hossain also went through the problem what Mustafizur now has been suffering. But operation wasn’t needed for those two players because both of them basically were batsmen, said Jalal Yunus.
The veteran cricket organiser also said they want Mustafizur to undergo operation in England if it is necessary.
Meanwhile, Sussex have announced that Bangladeshi left-armer Mustafizur Rahman will unfortunately play no part in the Sharks’ upcoming NatWest T20 Blast and Royal London One-Day Cup group matches. The 20 year-old is suffering from a shoulder injury and, under the direction of the Bangladesh Cricket Board, is due to have a scan this week to ascertain whether or not he will be fit enough to play in any knockout matches should Sussex qualify for the later stages of either competition.
Fizz himself has nothing but praise for Head Coach Mark Davis, Captain Luke Wright and his team mates, and it is hoped that there is a possibility of him returning to Hove in the future. He has played two NatWest T20 Blast matches so far, against Essex Eagles and Surrey, but the injury kept him out of Sunday’s visit to Cheltenham to face Gloucestershire in the Royal London One-Day Cup.
