According to family members, Zobaer’s neighbor Bahadur, who is a Jamaat leader, influenced him and led him to the path of militancy.
Golam Farque, cousin of Zobaer, said Bahadur used false names, including Abdullah Bahadur, Mohhamad Ali and Khalad Mohammad Ali. He was involved in various arson attacks during the BNP-Jamaat-led countrywide blockade.
Family members claimed that they filed a general diary with Sadar Police Station on 12 June about the disappearance of Zobaer.
Abdul Kaiyum, father of Zobaer, said, “I was a supplier of safe drinking water in different hotels and restaurants. I’ve three sons and two daughters. Zobaer was my elder son. I still can’t believe that my son was a militant.”
When contact, Noakhali SP Elais Sharif told The Independent that Zobaer and Bahadur were missing since 25 May.
“We’ve arrested five of Bahadur’s family for interrogation. They are Bahadur’s wife Shahada Akther, their daughter Lia, Bahadur’s mother-in-law and father-in-law.”
