Bangladesh football coach Tom Saintfiet denies any agreement with Nigeria, stating that he is preparing for witnessing the 2nd round of the Bangladesh Premier Football League so that he could pick the best players and build a stronger contingent for the upcoming Asian Cup Qualifying play-off against Bhutan.
“I don’t have any offer from any federation, any club except Bangladesh,” said Tom.
After the postponement of the scheduled signing ceremony between Bangladesh Football Federation and Saintfiet yesterday, it was circulated around the sports arena of the country that Belgium-born coach is going to part with Bangladesh to take the charge of Nigeria football team, who will soon start their qualification round for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
“I felt a little bit sick. Last night I can’t sleep much. It had something wrong with me. I had so many problems. I feel little bit weak but I hope tomorrow I’ll be better. I met with president to discuss the details. I’ll fly to Chittagong to see second phase tomorrow,” said Tom Saintfiet.
“I saw six league matches last three days. I’ll also see some more league matches. My commitment is to prepare a stronger team for the Bhutan match because that’s my goal to qualify Bangladesh against Bhutan for the Asian Cup qualifying,” Saintfiet told media after holding an hour-long meeting at the office of BFF president in the capital city.
“I’ll go for the Bhutan match. If we win the Bhutan at home then we will stay for one more and that’s the idea. We have to qualify. After that we will set my ambition to stay few years in Bangladesh. But all depends on the results,” he added.
The home and away matches of the qualifier against Bhutan has been rescheduled. As the new fixture, the matches will be held on September 6 and 10.
When asked about his departure for Bangladesh, Saintfiet said that he will be returning again Dhaka after two weeks to launch the training camp for the qualifying matches.
“Of course, I’ll stay. I will leave on Sunday for Belgium for two weeks because I have to see my wife, who is pregnant. I’ll return on August 17 to see the sixth round matches in Dhaka. On August 21, we’ll start training camp preparing for the Bhutan match,” Saintfiet said.
“We’ve a verbal agreement with president and that’s the most important thing. It’s right that I’m yet to sign the paper but I’m doing my job. I’m happy with working here,” he also said.
About the written agreement, Tom said, “I don’t know exactly when I’ll sign. That’s not all important. I’m doing my job. You could have a coach to sign but he could not do his job. But for me it does not matter much. I’m doing my job that I prove working here.”
