Incessant rains triggered by monsoon inundated many parts of the capital for the second consecutive day yesterday, throwing the normal life in complete disarray, reports UNB. “When there’s monsoon, the city people keep on struggling to commute as most roads are bumpy and potholed. Rain or no rain you must suffer in this dirty city,” says Mujibul Huq, an engineer by profession.
Many roads and lanes of the capital went under water due to rain since Thursday, causing immense sufferings to people and disrupting their normal activities, slowing vehicular movement and causing huge traffic jams. The rainwater submerged roads in Mirpur-10, Shenpara-Parabata and Kazipara, Rokeya Sarani, Bijoysharani, Maghbazar, Mouchak, Malibagh, Shantinagar, Kakrail, Sabujbagh, Khilgaon, Merul Badda, Rampura, Motijheel, Shyampur and Demra areas.
Commuters faced problems in reaching their destinations due to huge traffic jam triggered by the torrential rains. There was water logging in many pockets, which leads to all the motorised vehicles getting stuck. Road digging at several places in the Moghbazar-Mouchak flyover construction site tormented the travelers most. Commuters are facing unbearable misery while travelling through roads connecting Moghbazar, Mouchak, Malibagh, Shantinagar, Eskaton, Dilu Road, Siddeswari, Shatrasta and Rampura due to the flyover construction work as the roads riddled with huge path holes have turned muddy and risky.
“A little bit of rain makes life miserable for those who use these areas and even the police find it difficult to clear the traffic on this stretch,” Mujibul Huq added. The roads that developed deep potholes due to the construction work turn muddy even after a little rainfall, putting commuters at risk of accidents. As there is no traffic regulation, vehicles frequently make U-turns, blocking the movement of others.
