Day labourer hacked to death

A day labour was hacked to death by his rival over a land dispute at Radhaganj village under Raipura upazila of the district yesterday morning. The deceased has been identified as Chan Mia, 55. Police and witnesses said Ibrahim, a neighbour of the victim, was yesterday planting a tree on the edge of Chan Mia’s land, and on hearing the news Mia rushed to spot and resist him from doing so. They immediately engaged in heated altercation, and at one stage Ibrahim became furious and attacked Chan Mia with a machete. Local people rescued Chan Mia and sent him to Raipura hospital where attending doctor declared him dead.
