A boy, who was abducted from Garolganti village in Ullapara upazila of Sirajganj district three days ago, was rescued alive by police from Ullapara railway station area on Thursday morning.
The boy was identified as Nayeem Ahmed, 10, son of Shariful Islam of Garolganti village in Durganagore Union of Ullapara upazila in the district. He is a class-V student of a local primary school.
Abdul Zalil, Sub-Inspector of Ullapara Model police station, said Nayeem was picked up by a gang of miscreants from in front of his home on June 22.
After the incident, the kidnaper demanded Tk 5 lakh as ransom from the victim’s relatives over cell phone. Victim’s father later lodged a case with the respective police station in this connection.
Following the call list on the phone, police launched several drives at Rangpur, Kurigram, Dhaka and some other places in the country.
At one stage, the miscreants left the boy at Ullapara railway station area with his hands and legs tied and eyes blindfolded. Being informed by locals, police reached to the spot and rescued him in alive.
