Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will visit India to attend a summit of BIMSTEC (Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation) member states on the sidelines of the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) summit, to be held in Goa on October 15 and 16, Indian high commissioner to Bangladesh Harsh Vardhan Shringla said yesterday.
Talking to a small group of reporters after a meeting with foreign secretary Shahidul Haque at his office, he also said that while in India, Prime Minister Hasina would hold a bilateral meeting with her Indian counterpart, Narendra Modi.
The high commissioner described the meeting as routine, saying that all the regular activities were discussed. They also discussed the upcoming home minister-level meeting that begins on Thursday in New Delhi, he said.About the next meeting of the Joint Consultative Commission (JCC) between the foreign ministers in Dhaka, Shringla said the date is yet to be fixed, but it would definitely be held sooner rather than later.A senior foreign ministry official said, however, the JCC meeting will be held in August.
About the home minister-level meeting, officials of the foreign ministry said home minister Asaduzzaman Khan will visit India from July 27 to 30 and will hold talks with his Indian counterpart, Rajnath Singh, on Thursday. Besides, there will be meetings between the two ministers at different levels, they said.
On Friday, home minister Khan is expected to meet Indian president Pranab Mukherjee and prime minister Narendra Modi.
