Injury restricts Fizz to make debut in ODI match

Sports Reporter

Bangladesh pace prodigy Mustafizur Rahman missed to make his debut in Royal London One-Day Cup with Sussex yesterday as he was sidelined with shoulder injury. Sussex Sharks, who were boosted by the arrival of the Bangladesh star bowler, played their match of the longer white-ball format against Gloucestershire without the pace sensation after their medical team confirmed that the ‘Cutter Master’ should be rested as a precautionary measurement. Sussex meanwhile though informed on Twitter that his shoulder injury is not serious and they expected him to comeback as early as possible. ‘The Fizz’ as he was adorably called by the fans is expected  to undergo a scan on his shoulder today, said BCB media and communications committee chairman Jalal Younus informed the reporters in Dhaka. His teams and the fans need to wait till then. The BCB is constantly in touch with the Sussex as they are very careful about the injury management of the left arm pacer who took the world by storm by his deadly cutter and Yorker. This was the old shoulder injury which kept the pacer sidelined during the Asia Cup early in this year.
“It may be the same old shoulder injury. I don’t know yet. After the scan I can get a clear picture about it,” said Mustafizur who added that he felt the pain during his second match against Surrey in NatWest T20 blast. Jalal Younus said that BCB physio provided suggestion to Sussex to handle Mustafiz at the moment. “We have already known that Sussex physio checked up Mustafiz. Even, our physio talked with them and suggested them how to handle him,” said Jalal Younus. “Obviously the scan in England would be very helpful because they have the modern and updated technology,” he added.
The reported shoulder injury comes as another blow for the bowler, who recently joined the squad after a lengthy delay. Mustafizur suffered from burnout after the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2016 season with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and was advised to rest to recover. Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) set a two-week rehab programme for him to fully recuperate from his hamstring injury. After that, visa issues delayed his County stint. He eventually made his debut for Sussex against Essex, ending with brilliant figures of 4 for 23. His second match though, didn’t reap him any wickets, as he ended up conceding 31 runs in 3.2 overs.
