Graft money being used in militancy: ACC chief

UNB

Illegal money, accumulated through corruption, is being used in spreading militancy, says Chairman of the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) Iqbal Mahmood, reports UNB. “If illegal money is not used in militancy, where from such huge money is coming to foreign bank accounts?” he questioned while addressing a views-exchange meeting at the ACC conference room yesterday. The national anti-graft agency arranged the meeting with senior journalists to discuss the draft of its strategic work plan 2016-17. Identifying economic terrorism and militancy as major threats to today’s world, Mahmood said nobody will remain safe in the future if both cannot be addressed effectively. Vowing to take all-out steps to prevent corruption from society, he said the Commission will take opinion from all sections of society to do so. About black money, the ACC chief said it is a ‘big hole of corruption’ and many people, including tax offices, are involved in it. Stressing the need for conducting probes into cases of black money, he said the ACC will soon send specific recommendations to the government in this regard. Apart from corruption in the banking sector, Mahmood said corruption is found in every sector of the country. “Government physicians are receiving public money as salary but they don’t go to their workplaces in rural areas. This is also corruption.” ACC commissioners Dr Nasiruddin Ahmed and AFM Aminul Islam, its secretary Abu Mustafa Kamal and Daily Samakal editor Golam Sarwar, among others, spoke at the meeting.
