Week-long tree fair begins in Manikganj

MANIKGANJ: State Minister for Health and Family Welfare Zahid Malek Swapan called upon the people to plant more saplings in and around their houses to keep environment favorable for healthy living, reports BSS.
He said we should plant more saplings to keep ecological balance which is necessary for our existence.
The Minister said this while inaugurating the seven-day long tree fair at Manikganj Government High School playground as chief guest on Saturday.
Deputy Commissioner of Manikganj Rashida Ferdouse presided over the inaugural function.
Alimuzzaman Miah, Deputy Director (DD), Department of Agriculture Extension, Advocate Golam Mohiuddin, Administrator Zila Parishad, Manikganj and Gazi Quamrul Huda Selim, Mayor of Manikganj Pourasava among others spoke on the occasion.
Another reports from Rangpur adds: Speakers here yesterday called for massive tree plantation for coping with changing climate and improving environment, ecology and bio-diversity to create a healthier and habitable planet for the next generation, reports BSS.
They were addressing the launching ceremony of the tree plantation campaign-2016 conducted by Kawnia upazila land office in Kawnia upazila in the district.
Kawnia Upazila Nirbahi Officer Syeed Farhad Hossain inaugurated the campaign by planting a sapling on the upazila land office premises as the chief guest.
With Assistant Commissioner (Land) for Kawnia upazila Nazmun Nahar in the chair, Editor of the weekly “Prottyashar Alo’ Sarwarul Alam Mukul and ‘Kanoongo’ Khairul Anam attended it as special guest. Nazmun Nahar called for massive forestation through tree plantation to create an eco-friendly nature. Farhad Hossain called upon all for planting at least one tree sapling annually.
