Newly-appointed HP spin coach Mohammad Rafique urged Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to stage the spinner hunt programme so that the quality spinners can come out from the initial stage.
“BCB should set a target to pick out spinners. For this the board could stage the spinner hunt like programme. It will be possible to produce young and more quality spinner,” said Mohammad Rafique.
“Six spinners have come here today. I have worked with them. I will get some more spinners when the training will start in full swing. But we will not get more quality spinners in this way,” Rafique told media after the end of the first day training session at the Mirpur Indoor Stadium.
“But the main thing is that I just join with the board. I will hold talks with the board. Both we set a target how we can produce more quality spinners,” he added.
The former national spinner said that he want to help the board to fill up the lack of quality spinners in the national team.
“Those- who are now in HP camp, are the good performers of the domestic cricket- have been picked up for the inclusive training programme, from where BCB will produce the spinners for the national team. My target will be the same to sharpen them for the further betterment,” he thinks.
“Bangladesh have a dearth of quality spinners. I will try to help them so that some of them can come out after the spinners likes of Shakib and Saqlain Sajib,” the 45-year spinner opined.
The spin all-rounder thinks that the local spin coach is much better than the foreigner to bright out the quality spinners.
“Many foreign spinners have come here to train local spinners. But we want to work better more than them. We could work for them with rapt attention. I will try to follow what I had learnt from the international stage for their betterment,” he said.
When asked about his feeling to start the new journey with HP, Rafique said, “I feel well to start again my career with the board as the spin bowling coach of the High Performance (HP). Pray for me so that I can teach them what I had learned throughout my cricket career.”
