Defending champions Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club began their JB Bangladesh Premier Division Football League campaign with an unhappy note when Arambagh KS forced them to share points after a 1-1 draw at the MA Aziz Stadium, Chittagong.
Jamal despite keeping the lead up to 89 minute conceded a last minute equalizer to spoil a chance to earn full two points. Arambagh’s youngster Abdullah stunned with a strong 90th minute volley. Earlier Emeka sent Sheikh Jamal into lead.
Object of the organizers was partly success to hold the matches in front of a packed up gallery when some 15,000 spectators gathered in the 25,000 capacity of MA Aziz Stadium in the opening day of the JB Bangladesh Premier League football.
Though the organizers expected a packed gallery from the beginning of the match but in the working day fans began to enter into gallery after few minutes of starting the first match and it looked more than half of the gallery was filled up before the start of the second match of the host team.
However, Sheikh Jamal, the reigning champions who actually have been going under huge crisis since forming the team when they lost some of their key players and the misfortune did not leave them when their most valuable player Wedson Anselme did not renew his contract and now has a very slim chance to join.
But their acting coach Mosharaf Badal said that most of their players played with illness some of them could not play as they were attacked by virus.
Badal, a former goalkeeper also informed in the post match press conference that they are expecting to get Wedson next month and coach Joseph Afusi will also join after next month.
However, though Jamal began the match in style with creating huge pressure on Arambagh and also took lead on 15th minute through Emeka Darlington but that was not enough to earn full three points as Arambagh made it 1-1 just on the 90th minute.
But Arambagh, who eliminated favourites Jamal from the semifinal of the Federation Cup, produced huge challenges in the second half with building the attacks gradually and at one stage it looked that they (Arambagh) were dominating the match and forced the favourites to play under pressure.
Jamal, who played like a champions throughout the first half of the match, went ahead in the 15th minute with Emeka Darlington and Landing Darboe entered into the danger area exchanging a wall pass down the left side and the former make the successful finish with his right footer hit the near post hitting the side post (1-0).
Jamal could double the advantage on 41st minute but a weak attempt from Emeka denied by Mansur on the way to goal while the misfortune did not depart them when another two goal bound attempts were denied by the posts.
On 44th minute a Kesto Kumar free-kick hit the cross piece and a powerful right foot shot shattered the side post, which could have easily increased the Jamal lead.
Titu changed the formation in the second half increasing strength in the front line and his tactics clicked well when went very closer to score goals, first chance came their way on 58th minute but Ismail was too late to shot and on the returned ball Abdullah’s weak effort went straight to keeper. Then on 61st minute a Mansur long range attempt hit the side post.
But Abdullah, who had call in the national camp could find him perfectly, did great job just on the final minute when he cleverly volleyed home on a Mansur lob to snatch a point for Arambagh (1-1).
There was a excitement in the injury period when Jamal saw another big blow when Emeka saw red card as he punched Arambagh’s defender Issah Yussif, who also got marching order due to misconduct with the referee.
Arambagh coach Titu also agreed in the post press meet when he said, “Though a disappointing start not to have full points but on the other hands, you can say it was good luck not lose full three points and to earn at least one point with a dying minute goal.”
