‘Crime-free society a must to protect young generation’

BSS

RAJSHAHI: Crimes-free society, particularity free from terror-attack, extremism, militancy and drug addiction, must be established at any cost to protect people and the young generation, in particular, from deadly consequences of the crimes, reports BSS.
To attain the cherished goal, the law-enforcing agencies and the community people should have to work together as the law-enforcers alone aren’t capable to overcome the crises. Discussants made these observations while addressing an anti-militancy and anti-drug-addiction meeting held at Court Station area under Rajpara Police Station in the city yesterday afternoon.
Rajpara unit of Community Policing organised the meeting with the main thrust of encouraging and motivating the people towards freeing the society from various crimes. Shafiqul Islam, Commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP), attended and addressed the function as the chief guest with Azizul Alam Bentu, unit president of Community Policing, in the chair.
RMP Deputy Police Commissioner (West) Nahidul Islam, Senior Assistant Commissioner Ifte Khayer Alam and Councilors of Rajshahi City Corporation Abu Sayeed Tuku and Md Kamruzzaman also spoke. Officer-in-Charge of Rajpara Police Station Aman Ullah moderated the discussion.
Azizul Alam Bentu said various social crimes like drug-addiction, sexual harassment to schoolgirls, violence against women and early marriage could be mitigated through successful functioning of the community based policing. Taking stern action against the drug smuggling, trafficking and addiction has become an urgent need for the sake of protecting the young generation from drug aggression as it is destroying the promising youth forces.
Bentu urged the law enforcement agencies and others concerned to expedite the anti- drug drives to make the society free from the curse.
In his remarks, RMP Commissioner Shafiqul Islam said the community people should extend cooperation towards police with specific information about the criminals.
The community people know well about location of the criminals, drug traffickers and traders and the police need the information from the citizens for taking legal action against them. He added that police-citizens joint patrolling and drives against the social crimes are the main objective of the community based policing and there is no alternative to activating it to free the society from the crimes.
The community based policing had been introduced in the metropolis with a noble view, but the community people should take the responsibility of making it effective.
