Amidst growing urge to stop the spread of militancy at educational institutions across the country, authorities at Dhaka University announced to stage one of the biggest human chain on the campus today with a call to avoid the accursed path, reports BSS.
A huge number of students, teachers and officials are likely to take to the streets, put banners and posters inscribing slogans to resist the menace demonstrating solidarity for the cause and sending a cautionary message for the evil forces and the militants.
The move came at a time when the country is still reeling from the shocks of twin dreadful terrorist attacks unleashed in Gulshan and Sholakia in the country, coupled with the revelation that a number of university level students went missing allegedly for falling prey to the traps laid out by the radical groups.
“Preparations are well underway to ensure that the human-chain cover all the entry points and key intersections on the campus, stretching from Nilkhet intersection to Curzon Hall, let alone extension can be arranged in response to a greater public response,” Vice-Chancellor Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique told BSS.
To be held between 11 am and 12 noon, this event may draw an unprecedented level of public response while all the classes and offices will remain closed during the time. “I urge people from all walks of life to join the programme and make it a success”, pleaded the VC.
Prof Siddique said: “Mass resistance should be waged against terrorism and militancy. Each one of us from our respective positions has a role to play in this fight. T
eachers and guardians should step up their activities to guide the young generation to keep them in the right track,” the vice-chancellor hoped.
Prof Arefin called upon the professionals, social and political leaders to come forward to protect the country from the venomous bite of terrorism.
