Police said an engine boat carrying about 80 passengers from Baroich Village of Belabo upazila to Borikandi in Nabinagar upazila of the district caught gusty winds near Jongi Shibpur Village at about 11:30am yesterday, which caused the boat to sink in the Arial Kha River. Locals said shortage of boats and other rescue equipment in the vicinity caused delay in reaching out and rescuing the boat passengers as the boat sank in deep water. On information, fire service teams from Raipura and Belabo rushed to spot and began rescued operations with the help of villagers. Ten bodies have been retrieved so far while twenty five passengers still remain missing. Relatives of missing people are continuing their search for the missing people, they said.
