Two �militants� held

Detectives arrested two suspected militants, including the commander of a newly formed Islamic jihadi group, from Mohammadpur area in the capital on Wednesday, reports UNB. Three foreign made pistols, 16 rounds of bullets and explosives were recovered from their possessions. The arrestees are Md Asaduzzaman alias Milon alias Milo alias Abdullah alias Anik, commander of newly formed jihadi group Bangladesh Jihadi Group and Firoz Md Tamal, a major financer of the jihadi group. Briefing reporters at DMP media centre yesterday, Joint Commissioner (DB) Monirul Islam said tipped-off, a special DB team conducted a drive at Mohammadia housing of Mohammadpur at about 5pm and arrested the two militants.
Monirul Islam said earlier on June 7, the detectives arrested nine suspected militants, including spiritual leader Maulana Nurullah Kashemi, from Banasree and Sutrapur areas. According to their information, the detectives arrested three people, including a lab assistant of Dhaka University, on charge of selling chemicals to militants, he said. After interrogating the arrested militants, DB men launched a drive and arrested the duo from Mohammadia housing area on Wednesday.
The Joint Commissioner (DB) said during preliminary interrogation, the arrestees revealed that they used to provide firearms and Jihadi training to militants in a char of Padma river and frontier areas of North Bengal. They had a plan to send those the trained militants to Syria and Afghanistan, he said. Separate cases were filed with Mohammadpur police station in this connection.
