Police foil Juba Dal procession in Ctg

Police yesterday foiled the procession brought out by Juba Dal in Chittagong protesting verdict by High Court of seven-year imprisonment and fine Tk 20 crore to BNP Senior Vice-chairman Tarique Rahman.
When the leaders and activists of Juba Dal brought out a procession on BNP Chittagong office Nasiman Bhaban premises yesterday police chased them and forced to go inside of the BNP office. Later, the Juba Dal leaders and activists were found staging demonstration inside the gate of their office. At that time they chanted many slogans against government.
“As Juba Dal activists tried to create untoward situation, police put them back into the office.  Now the situation is under control,” said Kazi Masud Bin Anwar, sub-inspector (SI) of Kotwali police station.
At the beginning of the rally Juba Dal leaders said “Tarique Rahman was sentenced to jail and fined as a part of a conspiracy of the government. To stop the advancement of Tarique Rahaman government is doing the conspiracy.”
In the rally presided over Mohammad Shahed, Senior joint secretary Juba Dal of Chittagong city unit Zafar Ahmed, Convener of Chandgaon Thana Juba Dal, Juba Dal leaders MA Mansur, Arup Barua, M A Shaki, Emdadul Haque Badsha, Md Yeasin among others delivered speech.
Tarique was sentenced to seven years in prison and handed a fine of Tk 20 crore by a High Court bench as High Court scrapped his acquittal in a Tk20 crore money laundering case on July 21.
