Taqiyyullah hospitalised

Language Movement veteran AJM Taqiyyullah, 89, has been hospitalised with respiratory problems and other old-age complicacies, reports BSS. He was admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) of BIRDEM Hospital this noon, said a press release. Taqiyyullah was actively involved in communist movement since the forties and was the general secretary of Dhaka district unit of the Communist Party in 1951. He was detained in jail by the Pakistani rulers from 1951 to 1954. Taqiyyullah modified the present version of Shahidullah Bangla calendar. He is the lone photographer of 1948 Language Movement. Taqiyyullah is the fourth son of Dr Mohammad Shahidullah. His younger brother is famous painter Mortaza Bashir and niece eminent entrepreneur Geeteara Safiya Choudhury.
