Heavy rains over the past three days in Bandarban have pralysed normal life and snapped road communication between the district headquarters with the rest of the country on Wednesday. Toad communications with the Naikhangchhari-Ramu and Bora Modak have remained snapped since Tuesday. Low-lying areas in seven upazilas of Bandarban have gone under water. According to local UP chairman and upazila chairman, pineapple, banana and papaya on large areas have been damaged by the incessant rains in the district. All the development and construction works have been stopped because of the rain. Water levels increased in the Sangu, Matamuhuri and Bankkhali rivers causing flooding in the district, says local upazila chairman. Bandarban Pourasabha Mayor M Jabed Reja on Wednesday morning urged the people living at the foot of hills to move to safe places.
A large number of families have been suffering here due to the continuous rain, said the mayor.
