BTRC to adjust unpaid
amount of 13 IIG operators
from bank guarantee

Bangladesh Telecommuni-ca-tion Regulatory Commi-ssion has decided to adjust the unpaid amount from the performance bank guarantee (PBG) of 13 international internet gateway (IIG) operators, as they have failed to pay various dues to the government, reports BSS.
According to the officials of the telecom regulator, the IIG operators are owed around Tk 50 lakh to the government as the operators have failed to share of their revenue in the last quarter while some of the operators are yet to deposit their due of license renewal fees.
Talking to the news agency, BTRC Spokesperson and Secretary Sarwar Alam said they would issue letter to the defaulter operators in next week
as per the decision of commission meeting.
The telecom regulator has taken the decision in the commission meeting held this week.
The defaulter IIGs are: Integrated Business System and Solution, Mango Teleservice, Rego Communications, FM Spectrum Telecom, Exabyte Ltd, i-Tel Limited, Green Land Technologies, Abir Corporation, Coronet Corporation, Skytel communications, Apple Communi-cation, Fiber@Home and Summit Communi-cation.
However, Apple and Fiber@Home, among the operators, currently don’t have any PBG left while all other operators have en-cashed 50 per cent of their PBG.
Mentioning some operators do not have any PBG left while others are at the end of their PBG renewal, a senior official said: “The BTRC has no other ways to take the decision at this point to secure government earnings.”
The telecom regulator in October last year initiated a move to amend the guidelines of IGW (international gateway), ICX (interconnection exchange) and IIG operators to introduce a pre-paid system to realize the outstanding dues.
Until last year the total dues of IGW operators was Tk 891.8 crore while the amount of ICX was Tk 749.76 crore and Tk 11.87 crore for IIG operators.
