Train service restored on Dhaka-Ctg route
The train service between Dhaka and Chittagong was restored yesterday at about 9.15 am after nearly seven hours of suspension following derailment of a goods train at Fatehpur Rail crossing under Sadar upazila in Feni district.
The engine of a Dhaka-bound goods train from Chittagong derailed at about 2.20am after crashing into a out of service truck halting train service on the Dhaka-Chittagong route, M Habibur Rahman, Additional Director General (operation) of Bangladesh Railway, told BSS in the capital yesterday.
The train communication and vehicle movement were restored about 9.15 am after two relief trains from Laksham and Chittagong salvaged the derailed engine and truck, Abdul High, General Manager of Bangladesh Railway (East) told BSS.

11 BNP men arrested in capital
Police arrested 11 leaders and activists of BNP from near the party’s Nayapaltan central office in the capital on Thursday morning.
Morshed Alam, officer-in-charge of Paltan Police Station, said law enforcers arrested the 11 BNP men, including party’s assistant office secretary Taiful Islam, in the morning.
Police arrested them while the BNP men were moving towards the party headquarters.
The arrest was made moments before the High Court verdict on an appeal against acquittal of BNP senior vice-chairman Tarique Rahman in a money laundering case.

ALCWC meeting tomorrow
A meeting of Awami League Central Working Committee (ALCWC) will be held at official Ganobhaban residence of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the capital at 7.30 pm on July 23 (Saturday).
Awami League president Sheikh Hasina will chair the meeting. Awami League general secretary and Minister for Public Administration Syed Ashraful Islam, in a statement on Wednesday, requested all members of the ALCWC to attend the meeting on time.

Discussion held in Gazipur
A discussion marking the World Population Day was held at Bhawal conference room of Gazipur district administration jointly organised by Gazipur District Family Planning Office and District Administration yesterday.
Deputy Director of Gazipur District Family Planning Office Lazu Shamshad Haque presided over the meeting while deputy commissioner SM Alam, civil surgeon Dr Ali Haider Khan, additional deputy commissioner ( Education) Mohammed Iftekharul Alam, Gazipur sadar upazila family planning officer Fawzia Azmot spoke among others.
 A colourful procession was also brought out at the town before the discussion meeting. However, six employees of family planning office and six organisations of the district were awarded in the meeting for their excellent performance.

Two food shops fined
Members of Department of National Consumer Right Protection (DNCRP)  in Rajshahi yesterday fined two food shops of Taka 60,000 here on charges of selling date-expired and sub-standard food.
A team of the Department of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) conducted the raids at Shaheb Bazar area under Boalia Police Station in the city and fined Noborupa Mistanno Bhander and
a grocery shop for preparing, possessing and selling food and other consumer items in unhygienic condition.  The team also realised Taka 60,000 from the shop owners.
Deputy Director of DNCRP, Mahabubur Rahman said the drive against the violations of consumers' rights will continue.
