RAJSHAHI: Investing in teenage girls could be the effective means of protecting the future generation which is very important for facing the gradually increasing challenges of the 21st century. Adequate support from the family members, particularly parents, towards their teenaged girls has become a crucial issue for their proper grooming up in the greater interest of transforming them into worthy citizens, reports BSS.
Associate Professor Dr Moshiur Rahman from Department of Population Science of Rajshahi University revealed this while presenting his keynote paper at a post-rally discussion here today.
Divisional and district offices of the Department of Family Planning organised the discussion in the conference hall of Family Welfare Visitors Training Institute (FWVTI) in observance of the World Population Day-2016.
Dr Moshiur Rahman said rational interactions between parents, particularly mothers and children should take place in each of the families. In practice, more than 95 per cent parents hesitate to share the changed matters. But, basically they are the key players to give actual ideas about the change factors among the teenaged girls.
He said adolescent period is remarkably a sensitive period for the adolescent girls. This is the time when many of them commit mistakes due to curiosity and ignorance. Changes in their body structure and hormonal activity surprise them unless proper knowledge on physiology is imparted to them.
Due to lack of proper guidance and suggestions from their near and dear ones especially mothers the adolescents fall prey to various fallacies. Commissioner of Rajshahi division Abdul Hannan addressed the meeting as chief guest while Deputy Commissioner Kazi Ashraf Uddin and Civil Surgeon Dr Ferdous Nilufer spoke as special guests with Divisional Director of Department of Family Planning Moloy Kumar Roy in the chair.
In her welcome speech, Deputy Director of the department Dr Nasim Akhter gave an overview of the district level family planning activities and, so far, achievements.
The discussants unanimously said collective effort has become an urgent need to make all the fertile families planned for the sake of happy and prosperous Bangladesh.
They viewed that there is no way, but to create public awareness about aspects of planned family and that is very important for freeing the nation from the curse of poverty and hunger besides attaining economic emancipation.
