Chittagong Mohanagar Paribesh Unnayan Committee, an environmental organisation yesterday submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister, through the Chittagong Deputy Commissioner, seeking action against the corrupt Bangladesh Railways officials and employees whose negligence let to the oil spill accident in Chittagong.
They say that rail authorities showed total negligence in this regard and even after the accident their negligent and callous attitude continued. The oil spill could have been prevented if the authorities had swung into action on time, the environmentalists allege. They also say that the removal of the spilt oil is being done in an unsatisfactory manner.
While submitting their memorandum to the DC, Abu Sufian, Chairman of the Chittagong Mohanagar Paribesh Unnayan Committee, highlighted the anomalies and negligent actions of the BR that led to the train accident, which now poses a serious threat to the environment.
