A schoolgirl was rescued by Patuakhali police on Wednesday after being abducted from her home at Sagordi Rupatali area of Barisal on Sunday.
The rescued girl was identified as Sumaiya Tanzila, 14, daughter of Shafikul Islam and alleged abductor was identified as Asma Akhter Sukhi, 26, a resident of Gopaldi under Patuakhali Sadar upazila.
Police took both to Barisal with the help of Patuakhali police and handed over the victim to her family members and sent the alleged abductor to Barisal jail after producing before the court on Wednesday afternoon, said Shah Md. Awlad Hossain, officer in charge of Barisal Kotwali police station.
Sub Inspector Nazrul Islam, investigation officer of the case said Shafikul Islam, father of the victim and a teacher of a local madrasa, said the accused abductor Sukhi was a staff of the same madrasa and have good relations with his family.
On July 17 complainant of the case alleged that accused Sukhi stole Tk 50,000 and 10 tola gold ornaments from his house and had abducted Sumaiya.
After starting investigation, the police rescued the victim and recovered cash and ornaments from the house of Shukhi on early Wednesday, police sources added.
