Workers of a readymade garments (RMG) factory yesterday blocked Dhaka-Tangail highway and vandalized several vehicles in the city yesterday following the death of their fellow in road accident.
The deceased was Ismat Ara, 30, an operator of sewing section of ‘Coast to Coast Garments Factory, and wife of Mohammed Hasan Miah of Gongachara area of Rangpur district.
Mohammed Mozammel Haque, sub-inspector of Naojure highway police outpost, said Ismat Ara was returning her workplace after lunch.
He said Ismat fell down on the highway when a motorcycle hit her while she was crossing the road in Itahata area yesterday.
Later, a speedy human hauler crashed her, leaving her dead on the spot.
On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Gazipur Shahid Taz Uddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital morgue.
As the death news spread, her colleagues of the factory put a barricade on the highway and vandalized several vehicles. The vehicular movement on the highway had been suspended for one hour.
Later, police rushed to the spot and took the situation under control. However, police seized the motorcycle and human hauler.
