Start-ups for the elderly..!

ROBERT CLEMENTS

Suddenly our country is all abuzz! There’s energy flowing all over. It feels like an old, sleepy elephant that has been lying quite still all these years, being jostled and pushed into absolute wakefulness, and this feeling of wakefulness, of aliveness that is happening is all about the Start-Ups or start-up companies that are blooming all over!
Once upon a time, getting into business was frowned upon by our people. I still remember my grandmother talking to another old person about my father, a businessman, saying, “Poor man, he’s unemployed!” That’s how businesses were thought of in the days of yore, but not anymore.
Today, in the country with the Prime Minister giving it such a push, start-ups are the in thing, and youngsters are climbing over themselves to start some business or other. They have the ideas, but they lack experience. They have strength, push power and staying power but you have the knowledge. They are ready to take on the world with sheer grit and guts as you are ready to retire from the world for bliss and rest.
Those youngsters need you. Most start-ups can’t afford full time professionals. You, don’t want to work full time, on a nine to five job, but would love to have your brains, your knowledge and experience being used to help these youngsters and their businesses. You may be a bit frail physically but your thinking power hasn’t weakened, nor the knowledge you gained in the jobs you held before retirement.
India needs you! Yes our country needs you desperately!
Your thinking, technical, creative, whatever your field, is needed more than ever. Like veterans who quite often defended their motherland while their youngsters went out to battle, your many skills, acquired over the years, is needed to help defend these new enterprises.
You could have been involved professionally in anything; accounts, engineering, the medical field, the advertising line, whatever, wouldn’t you like to be of use again? Wouldn’t you like professionals in businesses, corporates, start-ups and established firms looking at each other in wonderment as they see you solve what they thought was impossible? As much as the young are  going hammer and tongs building start-ups, they need you to build a firm foundation.
And you thought it was time to retire? Not yet. Not for awhile anyway. India needs you..!
