Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu yesterday said Bangladesh and India will work as a close friend of each other to tackle militancy, terrorism and maintain peace, UNB reports.
“We hope a deeper cooperation between Bangladesh and India will help maintain peace, eliminate terrorism and roll the wheel of development in this subcontinent,” he told reporters after a meeting with Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka Harsh Vardhan Shringla at the Secretariat.
The minister further said, “We don’t think terrorism is a problem of Bangladesh only as it’s also a problem of the subcontinent and the South Asia… we’ll work together with the Indian authorities to curb militancy.”
Besides, he said, the two neighbouring countries will share their experiences with each other to accelerate development, strengthen democracy and expand mass media. “We’ll also work together to build a non-communal, democratic and peaceful subcontinent through mutual cooperation,” Inu added. Asked whether the government has sought any assistance from India to curb
militancy, he said, “Bangladesh has many agreements with friendly country India. Sharing information with each other is very important. We think Bangladesh and India will work as a close friend of each other to tackle terrorism.”
