A Thakurgaon court sent 24 activists of local BNP and its front organisations to jail on Wednesday afternoon for attacking polling centre during January 5, 2014 national polls. District and Session Judge Shafiqur Rahman passed the order while the activists surrendered before the court on the day. The court also granted bail to two activists, including Mokhlesur Rahman,50, and Biplob,35, and exempted another from the allegation. According to the case, a group of activists of BNP and its front organisations attacked and vandalised Akcha Adarsha High School polling centre during the January 5 election. The unruly activists also forced election officials of the centre to leave after giving them good beating to stop election. Assistant Sub Inspector of Thakurgaon Police Station Zahedur Rahman filed a case with the police station on January 12, 2014 under anti-terrorism act accusing Ziaul Haque and 100/150 unnamed men of subversive activities. On 23 July in 2014, investigation officer (IO) of the case and also Sub-Inspector of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Tozammel Hoque placed a charge sheet before chief judicial magistrate court accusing 28 persons.
On Wednesday, the accused in the case surrendered before the court, where the judge delivered the order.
