BSS

RAJSHAHI: Infusing dynamism into agricultural extension activities could be the effective means of feeding the gradually increasing population of the country through best uses of its existing natural resources, reports BSS.
Besides, large-scale promotion of growers’ level farm mechanization is also important as the cropping intensity can be increased to 250 per cent even 400 per cent from the existing 200 percent through the best uses of the farm mechanization.
The observations came in a daylong workshop titled “Updating Agriculture Extension Manual” held at the conference hall of Rural Development Academy under Sherpur Upazila yesterday.
Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) organized the workshop where more than 50 focus group members comprising DAE officials, agriculture inputs traders and farmers from Rajshahi and Rangpur divisions attended.
Director General of DAE Hamidur Rahman and Director General of National Agriculture Training Academy Dr Mataharul Haque addressed the workshop as chief and special guests with Hazrat Ali, Additional Director of DAE, in the chair.
DAE Director Pratim Kumar Mondal, Additional Director Fazlur Rahman and Group Leader of Katalyst Washuzzaman Akanda also spoke.
Hamidur Rahman said the present government has attained remarkable success in agriculture sector and urged the officials concerned to put in their collective efforts to uphold the success in the days ahead.
He said the role of agriculture sector is very vital towards making the country’s economy functional alongside ensuring food security. He called upon the field level officials to discharge their duties with utmost sincerity and honesty.
Agriculturist Rahman said that the government has attached highest priority to the agriculture sector and added that the field level officials and researchers should take the responsibilities of reaching the government’s services to the farmers’ doorsteps.
