How long have you been an artist and how did you get started?

I had this incredible interest in painting since childhood. My mother first noticed that and she is the one who motivated me the most. But I didn’t have any academic training on this. So after completing my HSC exams, I took admission in the Faculty of Fine Arts of Dhaka University. From there on my dream of becoming a professional artist started to come true. There, my teacher Kamal Uddin inspired me a lot. Many of my friends, who are studying different subjects, often ask me why I don’t do a solo exhibition. I say to them that even my teacher Kamal Uddin has not done a solo art exhibition. I think you need to be very mature to do a solo show.

What is art according to you?

To me, art is the reflection of the artist’s emotions. We create art by looking at the nature that surrounds us. That is why in most of my works you find themes like nature and over- population of our country. I try to depict both the good and bad side of over-population.

What medium do you like to work with?

Acrylic, oil, and watercolour are the mediums I like to work with. Among these, I prefer watercolour most, because I believe it’s the best medium for me when I am trying to portray nature quickly.
What do you think is a key element in creating a good composition?

There are several key elements for creating a good composition. Balance, direction, harmony, lines colour, rhythm _ all of these seem important to me.

Do you have a routine?

Since I am still a student, I am dedicating all my time to painting. Whenever I am awake and not in class, I am working, so there is no specific routine.

What’s next for you?

I am preparing myself for a group exhibition. My friends and I are working night and day for it. I love painting and want to continue this journey.
