For the first time in the country, the government will hand Civil Service Awards over to 13 officials and government organisations to encourage bureaucrats in serving the people better.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will hand over the awards to the nominees at a function to be held on July 23.
The public administration ministry has decided to give the awards after scrutinising 44 bureaucrats and organisations. All the nominees will get a gold medal, cash incentive and a certificate.
Senior Secretary to the public administration ministry, Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury, told The Independent that they are introducing the award to motivate the civil servants and to bring more enthusiasm in the bureaucracy.
“Currently, there is no national award for bureaucrats, though they play a vital role in the development of the nation. That’s why we've decided to introduce it,” he said.
The senior secretary said a person, or a bureau, department, division or directorate can earn the award only if they have shown significant achievements and outstanding contribution to public welfare.
According to the policy prepared by the public administration ministry, the recipients of the award have to prove their services in terms of poverty
alleviation, administrative reforms, encouraging team initiatives, good governance, e-governance, increased efficiency, curbing corruption, organisational development, or women’s empowerment.
