HT Imam, the prime minister's political adviser, has said discussions with BNP can be held only if the party admits its past mistakes.
Imam made the comment after a meeting held at the House of Commons in London on the recent situations in Bangladesh.
Leaders from the AL and BNP joined the meet responding to a call by All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) of the United Kingdom to discuss current situations in Bangladesh.
State Minister for Posts and Telecommunications Tarana Halim, HT Imam and BNP leader Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury and leaders from both the party’s UK units attended the meeting presided over by APPG for Bangladesh Chair Anne Main.
During the meet, a fracas broke out when a spokesperson of Jamaat’s Europe unit tried to deliver a speech. The Jamaat spokesperson failed to do so in face of opposition. Awami League leaders claimed the Jamaat spokesperson was forced out for attending the meet without invitation.
After the meeting, former South Asia specialist of Amnesty International Abbas Faiz said the two parties could not be brought under the same umbrella although the meet aimed at doing so.
We always try to unite the two parties from a common ground
