The High Court (HC) yesterday fixed June 29 for delivering its order on a petition filed by BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia for cancelling the deposition of the investigation officer (IO) against her in the Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case.
After concluding the hearing on the revision petition filed by Khaleda, the HC bench—comprising Justice Md Moinul Islam Chowdhury and Justice JBM Hassan—set the date.
In her petition, filed on June 15, Khaleda prayed to the HC to pass an order upon the lower court to expunge the deposition of Harun-or-Rashid and record his fresh statement in her presence at the court.
The petition also sought an HC rule asking the authorities concerned to explain why the recording of the statement of the IO, Harun-or-Rashid, in Khaleda’s absence should not be declared illegal.
In her petition, Khaleda said the Special Judge’s Court-3 of Dhaka has recorded the statement of Harun-or-Rashid, also director of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), in her absence for six days, in violation of the laws of the land.
AJ Mohammad Ali appeared for Khaleda while Khurshid Alam Khan argued for the ACC during the hearing.
The proceedings of the graft cases against the former prime minister are now being held at Dhaka’s Third Special Judge’s Court, which has already recorded testimony of the plaintiff in one of the cases filed by the ACC.
