Digital X-ray machine at RMCH
For the first time, digital x-ray machine has been installed in Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) aims at improving its standard of services.
President of RMCH Management Committee Fazley Hossain Badsha, MP, attended the opening ceremony as chief guest.
Among others concerned, RMCH Director Brig Gen AFM Rafiqul Islam, Deputy Director Dr Gazi Shaiful Alam Chowdhury and Assistant Director Dr Towfiqul Islam Belal were present on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion, Lawmaker Badsha urged the doctors, nurses, technicians and others concerned to discharge their duties with utmost sincerity and honesty for betterment of the both the indoor and outdoor patients of the hospital.
Ashari Purnima celebrated
Buddhists in the Chittagong and district on Tuesday celebrated one of the major religious festivals Ashari Purnima with solemn devotion and traditional enthusiasm.
Ashari Purnima is celebrated by the members of the Buddhist community across the country to commemorate three significant incidences of Buddha’s life which took place on this day. On this day, restless and dissatisfied with the opulent society, Prince Siddhartha, renounced his kingdom, even his wife and son when he was just 29 years old in quest of eternal truth.
The festival was celebrated in all monasteries through day-long programmes.
The day’s programme was heralded with hoisting of the national and religious flags atop all monasteries and chanting of the sacred verses from the Tripitaka.
Journalist’s house burgled
Burglars took away valuables from the house of a journalist at the capital Purba Shewarapara on Monday.
Golam Moin Uddin, senior staff correspondent of news agency United News of Bangladesh (UNB), said thieves entered his ground-floor house by cutting the window grill sometime between 11 am and 11 pm when the family members were away. “The incident came to light when I returned home around 11 pm,” he said, adding that the burglars looted Tk 16,000 in cash, a mobile phone set and some dresses.
The owner of the house filed a general diary with Kafrul Police Station in this connection. Police visited the house but no arrest was made, Moin Uddin said.
14 power connections cut off
A mobile court of Power Development Board (PDB), Chittagong in a drive on Tuesday filed 14 cases and cut off 14 electric connections for not paying electricity bills and using illegal power connections.
Mohammad Mohiuddin, senior judicial magistrate of Power Court (North) of PDB, Chittagong, led the mobile court in different areas under Patiya upazila of the district and came up with the move. The court also fined Taka 73 thousand and filed another six cases for using illegal power connection.
PDB sources said the cases were filed for realizing a total of TK 16 lakh 25 thousand 905 arrears. PDB Executive Engineer, Patiya zone Abu Sayed Chowdhury, Assistant Engineers Mohammad Jahangir Alam, AFM Rezaur Nobi, Sub-Assistant Engineers- Saifullah Rony and Mohammad Zaharul Hoq, among others, were present during the drive.
JS body on Cultural Affairs meets
The 14th meeting of the parliamentary standing committee on Cultural Affairs’ Ministry was held on Tuesday at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.
Chairman of the committee Shimin Hossain (Rimi) presided over the meeting, said a release.
Other members of the committee: Cultural Affairs’ Minister Asaduzzaman Noor, Kazi Keramat Ali, Segufta Yasmin, Monoranjan Sheel Gopal, Ponkoj Nath and Jebunnessa Afroz attended the meeting. The meeting was told about the vacancies in different departments under the ministry and ways to fill them up.
The committee wanted to know how the money sent to the upazila libraries was spent and suggested that the UNOs send a copy of it to the ministry.
