JU protests militant attacks
SAVAR: The authority of Jahangirnagar University (JU) yesterday formed a human chain in front of the main entrance of the university protesting recent militant attacks and terrorism in the country.
The university authority formed the human chain as part of the measures taken to aware the university students as well as the people against militancy and terrorism.
Led by Vice Chancellor Farzana Islam, Pro-Vice Chancellor Abul Hossen, Dean of the social science faculty Amir Hossain and director of the Student Welfare and Counseling Centre Professor Rasheda Akhter spoke, among others, at the human chain.
The VC said, 'we must be united to resist militancy and terrorism across country'. The VC also urged the university students to come forward to build up a peaceful Bangladesh resisting militancy and terrorism. Meanwhile, Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) organised a discussion titled ‘stand up Bangladesh against terrorism and militancy’ at the Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin auditorium of BAU on Wednesday.
Religious Affairs Minister Principal Motiur Rahman was the chief guest said Guardians should keep an eye on their children so that they could not be disgruntled in the name of Islam. Earlier, a procession was brought on the campus in where teachers, students, officials of BAU and administrative personnel of Mymensingh district took part. Muhammad Al-Mamun, acting proctor of BAU, chaired the discussion meeting.
Peace rally against terrorism today
National University (NU) will organise a peace rally against terrorism today at the auditorium of Agriculture Institution at Farmgate in the capital.
An official release said the rally will be held at 10 am at Agriculture Institute where Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid will be present as the chief guest.
"Principals of all colleges across the country will attend the rally in protest against the recent attacks at Gulshan Holey Artisan restaurant and near the Sholakia Eidgah maidan," the release reads. As part of creating mass awareness and raising voice against the terrorism and militancy, the release added. Earlier, the education ministry held a meeting with the authorities of all private universities on July 17 aimed at creating mass awareness against the militant outfits and terrorists.
Quality edn needed for country’s development
Academicians underscored the need for enhancing the capacity of the universities to achieve international standard in quality education in the tertiary level for the development of the country.
They said the number of graduates is increasing in the country but there is paucity of jobs facilities here.
They said the graduates should be educated with quality education so that they can compete with others in foreign countries to get better opportunities there.
The observation came at an inception workshop on ‘Institutional Quality Assurance for Higher Education in Bangladesh’ organised by Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Shanto-Mariam University of Creative Technology in the capital.
Vice-Chancellor of the university Quazi Md Mafizur Rahman said they want to provide the best education to the students to get the most outcome of it.
Among others, Mesbahuddin Ahmed, head of Quality Assurance Unit (QAU) of HEQEP of the University Grants Commission, Ahsanul Kabir, member of Board of Trustees of the university, M Abul Kashem, Quality Assurance specialist of QAU, Sanjoy K Adhikary, Quality Assurance specialist of QAU, Prof Dr Yasmin Ahmed, director of IQAC and Anwarul Hoque, additional director of IQAC, spoke on the occasion.
