The 40th death anniversary of the Liberation War Sector Commander Colonel Abu Taher will be observed today, reports BSS.
The former military officer was hanged to death on July 21 in 1976. Leaders of Taher Sangsad also demanded messages from the heads of the state and the government marking the day naming any important installation and road after Colonel Taher. Marking the day, Colonel Taher Sangsad will place wreath at the grave of Colonel Taher at his ancestral home at village Kajla under Purbadhala Upazila of Netrokona district.
Bangladesh Chhatra League (JSD) will hold a rally on Dhaka University campus at 11 am demanding posthumous execution of Ziaur Rahman on the charge of killing Colonel Taher.
Taher was born at Badarpur in Assam province of British India on November 14, 1938. After completion of higher secondary school from Sylhet MC College, he joined the Pakistan Army in September 1960 as an officer.
