Man gets life terms for killing mother

A Chittagong court yesterday sentenced to life term rigorous imprisonment to man for killing his mother at Mirsarai upazila of Chittagong in 2005. The court also fined him Tk 10,000 if default he has to stay at jail more one year.
Nur-e-Alam, additional (fifth) district and session judge handed down the verdict. However, the convict is absconding soon after the incident. The life-term sentenced convicted was identified as Jashim Uddin, 39, son of Nur Ahmed of Moghadia village of Zafrabad Union of Mirsari upazila in Chittagong.
 “On November 24, 2005 at around 10am convict Jashim and his mother Wayez Khatun, 45 locked into an altercation over family dispute. During scuffle at one stage Jshim beat his mother seriously. The injured Wayez Khutun first was rushed to Mirsarai Mattrika Hospital and later sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH).  
At CMCH Wayez Khatun died,” said Lokman Hossain Chowdhury, additional district public prosecutor (PP).
 “Over the incident eldest son of the victim filed a case with Mirsarai police station. On February 17,2006 police submitted charge sheet indicting Jashim Uddin,” added Lokman Hossain.
“The court framed the charge on January 29, 2009 under Criminal Procedure Code- 302. The court examining 12 witnesses out of 17 and records handed down the verdict,” added Lokman Hossain.
