ACC arrests six bank officials in graft cases

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) yesterday arrested six bank officials from the capital and Bogra in separate cases filed against them on charges of misappropriating money.
The arrestees are Mojahar Ali, former manager of Uttarkhan branch of Janata Bank Ltd, Ashfakul Hakim, former executive officer of Kawran Baazar branch of Oriental Bank (now ICB Islami Bank, GM Humayun Kabir, junior assistant officer of the bank, Aminul Islam, officer of Bogra Satmatha branch of Pubali Bank, Sahiduzzaman Chawdhury, former IT officer of the same branch of the same bank and Bazlur Rashid, senior central manager (sacked) of Singair branch of Grameen Bank.
ACC public relations officer Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya confirmed it to The Independent.
ACC arrested Mojahar in connection with a case of 2008 on charges of embezzling Taka 5.59 lakh.  
Mozahar Ali withdrew over Tk 559,259 lakh from the bank through transferring money to an account illegally.
An ACC team, led by its assistant director of Integrated District Office Dhaka-1 Monirul Haque, arrested Mojahar from Maghbazar area.
Ashfakul Hakim was arrested from Tallabag and GM Humayun Kabir from Pallabi area in another case in 2007 for allegedly swindling out Tk 1,84,22,007 from ICB Islami Bank Limited.  Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) deputy director Jahangir Alam arrested them.
Pubali Bank officers Aminul Islam and Sahiduzzaman Chawdhury was arrested from Bogra in case filed against them in March this year in charge of embezzling Tk  2.88 lakh in connivance with each other through forging bank cheque .
Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) arrested Bazlur Rashid, Grameen Bank officer, from Dhaka in a case filed against him in the last year. He allegedly misappropriated Tk 10.90 lakhs from his branch by showing disbursement of fake loans.
