The department of environment (DoE) yesterday fined Tk 32 lakh against 10 factories and one individual for polluting environment and selling polythene bags illegally.
The DoE director (enforcement) summoned the nine factory owners and one individual to appear before the court at Agargaon. DoE (enforcement) director Anwar Hossain Hawlader fined them after the hearing.
He fined Tk 13.2 lakh for Twa-ha Textile Ltd in Savar, Uniglory Cycle Industries Ltd in Gazipur Tk 1.24 lakh, ABB Ltd in Gazipur Tk 4,000, Bismillah Washing in Keraniganj Tk 1.49 lakh, Ali Washing in Keraniganj Tk 83,000, Prisom Bangladesh Foundation in Demra Tk 7.15 lakh, Borak Washing Plant in Gazipur Tk 3.69 lakh, Noor-e Medina Dyeing and Finishing Mills Ltd in Narayanganj Tk 2.13 lakh and Reneta Ltm (penicillin plant) in Gazipur Tk 10,880.
He also fined Tk 50,000 against Moulana Rois Uddin for cutting hill illegally north side of Shajalal Science and Technology University in Sylhet.
“We fined them after found guilty. Our enforcement team has found that the accused factory owners are involved in dumping untreated poisonous liquid wastes into near by ditches indiscriminately. These untreated wastes are seriously affected the environment and ecology,” Anwar Hossain Hawlader told this correspondent.
