Two people were injured as an agitated group of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) of Chittagong University (CU) unit who did not get post at CU BCL committee carried an attack on university-bound shuttle train at Sholoshar railway station yesterday morning).
Railway authorities halted all the shuttle trains and Demo train services between the university campus and city following the attack. The injured were identified as Loco Master Md Waheduzzaman, who was given first aid and Sub-Inspector (SI) of Railway police Jakir Hossain was admitted to the Chittagong Medical Hospital (CMCH), said Mohammad Shuruzzaman, sub-inspector (SI) of Chittagong Railway Police.
At first around 7:40am the BCL men detained the loco master of the shuttle train at Jhautola station that left from the Bottoli railway station around 7:20am and they allegedly injured him.
When the train reached Forest Gate with the police escorting the agitated BCL men resumed attack with throwing stones and railway police sub-inspector was injured by stones, said eyewitness. Contacted, Md Shahabuddin, Master of the Sholashar Rail Station said, “A loco master and a sub-inspector of railway police were injured during the attack by the students. The loco master was given primary treatment and the SI was admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH).”
“SI Zakir now out of danger, he was transferred to police hospital,” said Himangshu Das Rana, officer-in-charge (OC) of Chittagong Railway Police.
“When the agitated students attack the shuttle at Jhautola station, police escorting the train to go to the campus but they resumed attack with stone and the loco master and the SI were injured and the railway authorities stopped the shuttle services, ” added the OC. A group BCL of CU unit started movement from Monday as a 201 members CU BCL unit was declared by central BCL. Earlier the ‘deprived’ BCL men had given a 48 hour ultimatum to the central committee demanding rank on the campus committee which was ended at 11am on Wednesday.
