Stocks close week in straight fall

Stock market closed the week yesterday in a strength fall than extended to the sixth consecutive session, taking broader index of the prime bourse to below 4500-point level, reports BSS.
The DSEX index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) closed the week at 4455.28 when the blue-chip DS30 and the Shariah DSES ended at 1715.66 and 1092.32 respectively.
"With lackluster participation by investors, benchmark index slid by 64.57 points", said Lanka Bangla Securities Limited (LBSL).
Average daily turnover during the week was down by 4.8 per cent compared to previous week.
 Among the major sectors, NBFI and pharmaceutical stocks were up by 0.8 per cent and 0.4 per cent respectively.
Market's trailing price earning stood at 15.41 at the end of this week.
The major gaining sectors of the week were mutual fund (4.57 per cent), engineering (1.74 per cent), tannery (1.46 per cent) when the losing sectors were life insurance (-6.64 per cent), IT (-2.9 per cent) and Cement (-2.66 per cent).
The major gaining companies were Hakkani Pulp (49.8 per cent), Style Craft (36.6 per cent) and FBFIF (29.3 per cent). The top losing companies were Asia Insurance (-15.4 per cent), National Life (-11.5 per cent) and GQ Ball Pen (-9.4 per cent).
At the last trading session, the index faced a steep correction immediately after opening dragged down by selected cement, mutual fund and textile stocks. However, buying interest on bank and pharma stocks trimmed the losses in last hour.
Among major gainers sectors yesterday were bank, pharma and NBFI while cement, fuel and power and textile the major losing sectors.
The top five of day's 93 advancing issues were Hakkani Pulp, Dacca Dyeing, 3rdICB, 2nd ICB and Style Craft when the Kay and Kraft, ICB1stNRB, Asia Insurance, Modern Dyeing and FBFIF were the top five among the 172 losing issues.
OAL topped the turnover list followed by Square Pharma, AFC Agro, Lafarge Surma, KPCL and Saif Power.
Activities decreased on the last day of the week when the turnover in value was Tk 346.62 crore for 8.73 crore shares.
Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) closed the week 19.97 points down at 8349.83, with 133 issues losing against 68 advancing issues.
The trade value was Tk 35.04 crore for 1.03 crore shares.
