Renowned sports organiser Kazi Mahtab Uddin Ahmed, senior vice-president of Bangladesh Handball Federation, died of prolonged illness at 1.30 am yesterday at Square Hospital in the city. He was 69.
Mahtab, who is also chairman and managing director of Mousumi Industries Ltd, left behind his wife, two sons and one daughter to mourn his death. His younger brother Kazi Rajib Udin Ahmed is the treasurer of Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA) and general secretary of Bangladesh Archery Federation.
Four Namaj-e-janazas were held in the capital before he was buried at Ramu in Bandarban. His first janaza was held at Arambagh jame mosque at 11 am, the second at Captain Monsur Ali Handball Stadium at 12 noon, third one at National Mosque Baitul Mukarrram after Zohr prayer and the fourth one at Cute Palli at Demra before buried in Bandarban.
The BOA, Bangladesh Handball Federation, Bangladesh Sports Journalists Association, Bangladesh Women Sports Federation and Bangladesh Table Tennis Federation condoled the death of Mahtab Uddin.
