Bangladesh pace all-rounder Soumya Sarkar expressed his satisfaction and said that he has been delighted in triumph of the remarkable ODI series against powerhouse India.
“Primarily, I didn’t think to win the series against India. Later, we could do it. I am really excited for this historic victory in the ODI series,” said Soumya Sarkar, who stacked up 128 from three one day outings with a fifty.
“After this emphatic win, we will try our best to carry on this momentum. We will go out to play against South Africa in the next home series to win the match from the onset of the series,” Soumya said at team’s hotel before going on four-day leave.
Citing the name of Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, Soumya said that they all enjoy the captaincy of Mashrafe.
“All we enjoy his captaincy. He really did captaincy well. He injected persistence inside us to do well in the games,” the pace all-rounder, who stitched a 102-run partnership with Tamim Iqbal, which helped Bangladesh win the first win against India, points out.
About Mustafizur Rahman, who showed an outstanding performance with his sublime off-cutter, the 22-year-old opener said that he is proud of Mustafiz dazzling performance.
“Mustafiz and me are the sons of Satkhira. I feel proud of his heroic display,” Satkhira-born lad thinks.
On the other hand, middle-order batsman Nasir Hossain said that he feels happy to win the one day series but sorry not to whitewash the high-ranked India.
“I’m very happy to triumph the ODI series with one match keeping in hand but sorry not to make them whitewash,” said Nasir Hossain, who scored 66 from two-match and picked up a brace bowling 22.2 overs in three matches.
“I did not perform as to my expectation in the just concluded home series. Hopefully I will execute my desired performance in the next home series against South Africa,” Nasir, who gradually tries to establish him as an all-rounder, opines.
The full bilateral series, comprising of two Twenty20s, three ODIs and two Tests, against South Africa will be kick started from June 5. The South African team is due to arrive in Dhaka on June 30.
Meanwhile, Khaled Mahmud Sujon, team manager of Bangladesh, said that they have been playing consistently better cricket since the home series against Zimbabwe.
“We are a sound team both in technical and tactical aspects. Before and after the World Cup Down Under, the team has been performing consistently well. We’ll try to maintain the momentum in future also,” said Khaled Mahmud.
Sujon, who is also a director of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), praised Mashrafe Bin Mortaza and said that he has the quality to lead the team in the right direction.
“Mashrafe did what we meant captaincy. Team’s players accepted what Mashrafe told them to do. He has full authority over the team’s players,” former skipper, who guides the team as team manager from Zimbabwe series, said.
Ruwan Kalpage, assistant and spin coach of Bangladesh, said that they have tried to stun opponent teams in every series by their new exploration. “We have explored the new talent to stun the rivals in every series. We’ve tried by Taskin Ahmed, Zubaer Hossain Likhon against Zimbabwe, Taijul Islam against Pakistan, while Mustafizur Rahman against India,” said Ruwan Kalpage.
Biswarup Dey, team manager of India, said, “Bangladesh checkmated India bettering in all the departments. The team have been progressing step by step last 15 years.”
“But it should be kept in mind that India is a better team in world cricket. It is not wise to judge them by their performance in this series,” Biswarup warned.
