NARSINGDI: A number of private colleges in Narsingdi district are facing shortage of students and their target for taking in students is not likely to be met this year, reports BSS.
Teachers and management of the colleges are now worried and going door to door in search of students. They are offering incentives to the students like fifty percent discount in admission charge, half- free tuition fees etc.
Local people said, private colleges and so-called standard colleges have mushroomed in the district under private patronization during the last ten years.
District Education Officer Manwar Hossain said a total 27 private colleges are running in Narsingdi town. Of which only two colleges have MPO and 25 colleges are running without MPO. The guardians are now well aware that quality of education is declining gradually in most of the private colleges. They are eager to admit their children in government colleges.
They said a section of business minded management is taking advantages in the name of standard private college to profit. Management of these private colleges charge unreasonable session fees and tuition fees unbearable for the parents and guardians.
While visiting so- called standard private colleges this correspondent found most of the colleges are running academic activities in rented buildings with small class rooms and without sufficient teachers. The guardians expect the government would monitor the performance of these private colleges.
