Home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal yesterday said they have identified the patrons and perpetrators of the Gulshan café attack that left 28 people dead, including six attackers. The minister disclosed that all the attackers were Bangladeshi nationals and their instigators might be foreigners. Kamal, however, declined to announce the names for the sake of investigation. The government will take necessary action against these people, he told reporters at the Secretariat.
He dismissed the hint by an Awami League leader that the US had proposed to the government to send its army here. “No, they did not propose to send their army here to help Bangladesh law enforcement agencies. We had a meeting with Nisha Desai Biswal, assistant secretary of state for South and Central Asian affairs in the US state department. The US official proposed to provide all kinds of support and cooperation to tackle terrorism in the country,” he added.
“We need foreign support in different areas, including social media. We are now assessing the need for such support,” he informed. The minister said they would conduct anti-militant drives across the country, if required.
Kamal said terrorism was now a global threat and the terrorists were changing their plot patterns.
Following a directive from Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, anti-terror committees were being set up at the grassroots to curb terrorism, he added.
