Mariner Youngs celebrate hockey title in style

Dhaka Mariner Youngs Club celebrated their maiden championship in Premier Division Hockey League 2016 by holding a victory rally yesterday.
The rally was started from the club’s pavilion in Arambagh and ended in Motijheel after parading the streets of Arambagh, Fokirapul and Motijheel.
To keep the victory of the club as a memorable chapter in country’s hockey arena, Dhaka Mariner Youngs Club led by its hockey committee chairman AKM Mominul Haque Syed, general secretary Hasanullah Khan Rana along with other club officials, players and supporters attended the rally.  
The Arambagh-based club, which launched their journey in 1972, promoted to the first division from second division in 1988. Thereafter, the club was drought of league title for the long 28-year hiatus.
This year they got a solid chance in the Delta Premier Division Hockey League 2016 to break the hoodoo of championship. They capitalized it overwhelming Usha Krira Chakra by 3-2 in the exciting final encounter at the Moulana Bhasani National Hockey Stadium on July 1.
